LadyKats eye sectional finals
The LadyKats will take on Harrison in Sectional Semi-Final tonight at Lafayette Jeff

The KHS girls’ basketball team has seen some highs and lows this season. The LadyKats currently sit at 12 wins and 12 losses during the 2022-2023 season. They have played many tough opponents this season and have worked hard in order to compete with those teams.
One goal junior Kamaria White has this season is to make a run in the postseason.
“I want to win sectionals,” White said.
The LadyKats made a step towards that goal on Tuesday, avenging a regular season loss to the McCutcheon Mavericks. The Kats beat the Mavs 31-22, advancing to face the Harrison Raiders in tonight’s sectional semi-final game.
“It was a great feeling to be able to beat them after a close game earlier in the season,” said sophomore Regan McClain. “I feel like we played a lot better and played our game.” I think we have a high chance to get to the sectional championship and win.
Another moment that stands out from the season was senior night day. The team enjoyed getting to celebrate their two senior players, Nande Geyton and Marta Manso. Manso got to play in her first varsity game that day. Late in the game, she drew a foul and made a free throw for her first varsity points of the season. The whole bench and players on the court celebrated her success and it was a special moment.
Junior Aijia Elliott, who recently scored her 800th point as a LadyKat, is always looking for ways to improve her game. Whether it’s watching game film to learn from her mistakes or getting in some extra practice, Elliott wants to get better.
“I go to the gym after practice and do dribbling drills,” Elliott said.
The LadyKats take on the Raiders tonight at 6pm at Lafayette Jeff. If they win, they will play in the sectional championship game on Saturday.
“I think we have a great chance to get to the sectional championship and win,” McClain said.
