The 2023-24 boys’ basketball team is beginning their season with their claws sharp and their fangs ready. Heading into the season with their eyes on surpassing last year’s goals, the players all share a similar goal: win the state championship. They are putting in work each day to improve the way they play. After six games, the team’s record is 4-2.

“Previous games have gone okay,” said senior Karson Rogers. “I can improve my overall hustle. Our team hustle and effort was the only reason that we lost to Westfield.”

The team is working towards building each other up and staying accountable on the court.

“When we play, something we need to do is work on being more accountable, building a stronger bond with our teammates, and helping one another achieve our one goal as a whole and our personal goals,” said junior Zion Bellamy.

To help one another get to those goals, the players say they go all out in practice, as “humanly possible.” Many of the players feel their leadership skills and vocal skills must improve in order for the team to get back.

“Helping each other out as a whole to get better is important as is overcoming our challenges to make it to the state championship,” said senior AP Mitchell.

The Kats have another two-game weekend, as they travel to North Central Conference rival Marion tonight and Carmel tomorrow.
