The KHS Academic Team is a trivia based group that studies and competes in contests against other high schools. This year, the team is studying the 80s and 90s. Their first competition is March 12.
The team will compete in two invitational competitions and an area competition that helps them to qualify for the state meet. This year, for the first time in over a decade, KHS will be hosting an invitational competition.
“This club is great if you’re looking to be more involved in extra-curriculars that aren’t athletics,” said one of the team’s coaches, Melissa Weicht. “It would peak the interest of someone who enjoys the specific subject matter or people who enjoy trivia.”
In addition to the competition, joining the Academic Team has multiple benefits.
“Students can connect with people who also enjoy the subject matter. It gives you a chance to be on a team that’s not athletic. You can use it as an activity for National Honor Society, Academic K, and for scholarships. It’s also a low commitment activity and doesn’t require participation on the weekends,” Weicht said.
This club is open to all KHS students. If you’re interested in joining, reach out to one of the team’s coaches: Weicht, math teachers Katlynn Craig or Rhonda Conwell, science teacher Elliott Budd or English teacher Danielle Greeson.
