Bring Change To Mind & Diversity Club: Mrs. Parry
This is a club focused on advocating for an equitable and celebratory culture here at KHS. The school has so many wonderful students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. That needs to be celebrated while also recognizing where the gaps are and fill them in.
- Diversity Club is starting as a branch under Bring Change to Mind and they are excited to work together this year.
- They are a mission-oriented club, so it involves people who want to get involved in making change. Change takes time, work and commitment to make happen and they are heading in with that mindset. One of the main goals is to bring disability awareness to the forefront, especially in the classroom. This will require everyone’s participation, including teachers and staff.
- They are looking to establish initiatives that will help with the change they want to see. But this year specifically, they are looking to build the club and create strong roots. The goal is to have this club be student-led, advisor-facilitated. What that means is that students are the ones leading and making the decisions and taking action. Advisors are here to help guide, but the students really take the wheel. They are also focusing on developing some exciting things for Black History Month.
- Anyone who wants to commit to developing the culture and community here at KHS is welcome to join. They welcome everyone who wants to be a part, but also need people to understand that this club will involve some work.
- They don’t have specified leaders at this time, but are looking for people who want to become leaders. They’re hoping to establish the Diversity Council, which will serve as the leadership team for the club. They hope to have all demographics of students represented on the council so that every group has a voice in what we’re doing.
- While they don’t have specific meeting dates yet, they are looking to meet the last Thursday of each month after school.
- As with every club, each student will be required to have a parent permission form on file before they can officially join. Once they request to join the club, whether signing up at the callout meeting or filling out the form linked via QR Code on the bulletin board across from the cafeteria/athletic hallway, they will get the parent permission form or they can pick it up from Miss Parry in Room 240.
- If anyone would like to get more information, they can always check out the bulletin board in the main foyer across from the cafeteria/athletic hallway or reach out to Miss Parry or Mrs. Wyant in the guidance office.
