After starting the season off with a few losses the Kokomo football team won their first game against the Anderson Indians, 49-12. The win gave head coach Austin Colby his 50th career win. As they approach the second half  of the season, the team is eager to beat their most competitive opponents at sectionals this year. They are working hard studying all their game plays and making sure they are prepared for whatever gets thrown at them this season.

“I am most excited to be playing against Lafayette Jeff because I have yet to beat them in high school,” said team captain Chance Duncan.

Despite losing to Jeff last week, the Kats could get another crack at them during the sectional.

“They are really talented, they are a sectional opponent and we hope that when we play the second time when it counts, we can win,” said assistant coach Jason Spear.

The football’s ultimate goal is to get to play into November this season.

My goal for this season is to get better as a team and to be able to play in November,” said junior Brixton Morris

Senior Andrew Barker agreed.

“I look forward to watching our team improve,” he said.

But for some, football is just a big part of their lives.

Football saved my life,” Spear said. “Football is the ultimate team sport and I believe it turns boys into men.”

The Kats travel to Richmond next week before returning to Walter Cross Field on Oct. 11 to take on McCutcheon for senior night.
