The LadyKat soccer team has been working hard throughout the season to prepare mentally and physically for their opponents.
“The most important work begins over the summer,” said head coach Elizabeth Rayl. “Getting into physical shape and bonding as a team. As the season progresses, we have multiple games a week so it is a balance between recovering and improving on the previous game.”
The team and coaches have a variety of goals for the year. Rayl wants them to learn to work together as a team because it will help them in all aspects of life. Team captain Lili Taskey is hoping to improve her teamwork and leadership abilities, in addition to her skills on the field.
“I also want to improve in my ball work skills as a midfielder to finish my senior year strong,” she said.
As they gear up for the sectional tournament, Rayl is knows her team may have to take on different roles than they are used to.
“We are one team. We win as a team and lose as a team,” she said. “Everyone here is going to hold different roles at different times. Trust each other and hold each other accountable to be your best. We expect you to do your best every time you lace up.”
Even though Taskey is injured, being a part of the soccer team has been an important part of her high school career.
“The best part is playing with a fun group of girls and building new relationships every season,” she said.
The girls’ soccer team travels to Maconaquah on Thursday before preparing for their sectional which starts on Oct. 10.
