While KHS underclassmen were taking the PSAT exam in October, the seniors were tasked with completing some sort of service project. There were many opportunities to volunteer throughout the community, as well as the school corporation.
Seniors participated in projects like cleaning up Wildcat Creek, volunteering at the Kokomo Humane Society and doing work around the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library.
While some students ventured out into Kokomo for their service projects, many students stayed a little closer to home and volunteered at elementaries throughout the corporation. They found it to be a very rewarding experience, not only for themselves, but especially for the younger students they worked with.
“The best part about my service work was all the little kids asking about me and looking up to me as a role model. They all gave me hugs and made me feel very welcome,” said senior Nancy Laughner. Laughner volunteered at Maple Crest Elementary.
It is also a great opportunity to interact with the students’ learning and help them with their education.
“I got to help out all grades while learning what they were working on such as coding, making arts and crafts,” Laughner said.
Through the senior service day, students were able to have an impact on the students’ day and give back to the community which has supported them throughout their academic journey.
