In just a couple of weeks, the lights will go up on the KHS Musical Theatre class production of Frozen, Jr. The show is filled with comedy, romance and bravery. There are many very talented actors and actresses in the class who are working very hard to make this production great. Junior Amelia Duncan plays Anna in the show.
“I am very excited about this musical,” she said. “Everybody has contributed so much time and effort into it and I am sure we will all do great.”
But only having a limited time for rehearsals sometimes makes things a little more difficult for the cast.
“Short rehearsal times in class make it difficult for us,” said senior Nora Marden. “We all always have to make sure we are focused so that we can produce a great result for our community.” Marden is playing Queen Elsa of Arendelle.
Even though this production is the junior version of the musical, that doesn’t mean the show is much different.
“The musical is a junior version, but that does not mean that the story is for children,” said director Randi Weeks. “It is just a shortened version. The songs are a bit shorter and a few ballads have been cut, but all the scenes are still there and the story is the same. It just goes faster.”
Senior Blake Wynkoop plays the king in Frozen, Jr. He is most excited about the special effects of the show because they are very different from anything done before in the school’s productions.
“I think people should see the show because of the unique approach the show takes compared to previous ones,” Wynkoop said. “Whereas the last show was famous for the amount of unique props our lead actors used, this one is a lot less prop heavy and a lot of the scenes are carried by costume design and practical effects.”
Senior Madelyn Hole is portraying Bulda, a leader of the Hidden Folk and adoptive mother to Kristoff. Because of the popularity of the movie, Hole thinks this is a show everyone can enjoy.
“Frozen is a great musical for ALL ages! The little kids will be singing along to their favorite songs. The students and parents will be astonished by the amazing technical aspects and be surprised by the message as it applies to their lives. It is a timeless story of love and redemption,” she said.
The KHS Musical Theatre class production of Frozen, Jr. is Thursday, Nov. 14 and Friday, Nov. 15 at 7pm in the KHS auditorium.
