After falling short last season in regionals, the Wildkat Basketball team is back and ready to get the season going.

The Kats finished 25-4 overall last season with a first place finish in the NCC. They are currently 5-0 this season and looking to get two more wins before Christmas.

Though the team graduated a few key players, this year’s team is just as confident in their abilities to score and come out with the win. The way they played had to change a bit, but the players have adjusted well to the new dynamic.

“The style of how we play is different from last season,” said senior Max Feuerle. “We play a lot faster.”

Even with the changes, the team has managed to get the hang of the new style and work together to get it flowing.

“I am excited for when we grow together more and really get the system. It’s great to be a part of the program and I have been taught a lot since when I came here compared to my old school,” said junior Korbyn Hammel.

Though they did fall short in regionals, it has become a motivation for some for the season.

“My motivation comes from our regional loss last year and wanting to prove to people that have written us off,” Feuerle.

The team hopes to have a successful season and get a conference win and sectional win once again. The Kats take on Marion in a girls’ and boys’ double-header this Friday. The LadyKats will take the court at 6pm with the Kats’ game to follow.
