Leavitt shines for KHS

Gymnastics is a new sport that has been introduced to Kokomo High School after junior Megan Leavitt represented Kokomo for the first time last season.

Coming off of last season, Leavitt was close to making it to the state competition but fell short at regionals.

“My main goal for this season is to improve my start values from last season in order to make it to state. My motivation behind wanting to make it to state this year is the fact that I barely missed out on that opportunity last year when I competed at regionals,” Leavitt said.

There is a lot of hard work and dedication that goes into the sport of gymnastics. With this, there is a lot of time as well. Although Leavitt represents Kokomo, she does not practice in Kokomo. Since she is a representative of Kokomo, there is a unique factor in the part of where she practices and who she competes with.

“One unique thing about competing as an individual is that I have to practice and compete with another team. For me, this team is Roncalli High School, so my practice and home meets are in Indy,” she said.

Leavitt has a really great opportunity to leave her legacy at Kokomo and good chances of achieving her goals this season. Her first official practice of the year was in the beginning of November. Her first competition will be in January.
