Senior Brielle Humphries recently became the first female wrestler to represent Kokomo High School at the Indiana High School Athletic Association’s first-ever girls’ wrestling state finals.

Though the outcome was not what she had hoped, Humphries represented Kokomo well.

“I’m really proud of her,” said head coach Jacob Bough. “She set a great example and she has grown a lot as a wrestler and the level of commitment she puts into it.”

At the state finals, Humphries faced many challenges. She could not get into a position to work her moves and ended up falling in the first round.

Even though this was the first year the IHSAA hosted a girls’ wrestling state tournament, this was not the first year Humphries competed for a state title. During her freshmen and sophomore seasons, she competed at the Indiana High School Girls’ Wrestling state finals.

As she wraps up her high school wrestling career, Humphries offered this piece of advice.

“Always be confident, don’t get in your head, and never underestimate yourself.”
