Earlier this month, Science teacher Vince Lorenz and his Geology students hosted a fun and educational day for the 4th graders from Wallace Elementary School. The Wallace students learned about Geology and Natural Science while also learning the cross curricular connections between English, Biology and Geology.
Geology students led the lessons with Play-Doh and Oreos as representations for mineral identification, cookie mining and plate tectonics discovery.
Trying to relate the subject to something the elementary students would understand was part of the fun for senior Branden Woods.
“Most importantly, I think it was a good experience for the 4th graders to get exposed to content they might not have heard about,” he said. “We talked about mining and tried to relate that to Minecraft.”
One of the coolest parts of the day for Lorenz was seeing his former students as 4th grade teachers and stating
“It was full circle…a full display of Legacy Matters!”
