As the school year comes to an end, everyone is stressed about finishing off on a good note. When it comes to the end of the year, getting your grades and assignments in can be tricky and overwhelming. Coming back from spring break can make staying focused even harder.
“My biggest piece of advice is to stay focused and don’t give up. It’s hard to come back from a long break and stay on track, but remember how close you are to the end of the school year and continue working hard,” said English teacher Amanda Marvin.
Counselor Brittanie Davis adds that it’s helpful to “keep a planner and a schedule to track what you need to do so you can work everything around school.”
It can be especially hard to stay on track when the weather starts to turn nicer. It’s easy to get distracted by the sun and warmer temperatures.
“Use your class time wisely. Whether that means working on practice questions or homework or asking your teachers for help, make sure you’re using the time you’re given wisely,” Marvin said. “Then, you can enjoy the weather after school!”
And remember to ask questions.
“Your teachers want to help you be successful, but if you’re struggling with something you have to tell us. We aren’t mind readers,” Marvin said.
As spring break ends, sometimes seniors don’t have the motivation to show up to school and they end up falling behind and not being able to graduate.
“Take everything one day at a time and don’t forget that school still matters. If you are failing, try and communicate with your teachers,” Davis said. “Keep yourself accountable, whether it’s asking a friend or a family member to check in on you. Or even having study groups and keeping a routine.”
But, Davis reminds students to take care of themselves too.
“It is good to care about school, but it is better to take care of yourself. The decisions you make today will have an impact on your life,” she said. “You don’t need to have everything perfect and you can do things one at a time. Don’t cram everything together at the last minute as that will make everything harder on yourself.”
With only six weeks left of school, keep the finish line in sight.
“Stay focused. When the weather starts getting nice it’s hard to want to come to school and be inside all day, but remember how close you are to the finish line,” Marvin said. “Push through and don’t let senioritis get the best of you.”
