Coming off a no-hitter against the Muncie Central Bearcats, senior pitcher Isaac Flamino has his sights set on the sectional.

“My goal this season is to win our first sectional championship in 15 years,” Flamino said. He’s also looking forward to enjoying his last season with some of his best friends.

Classmate Brighton Harris agrees. The state tournament is at the top of his goals.

“I am looking forward to winning a sectional championship while trying to become state champs,” he said.

Even though the team is young, Flamino believes they are more than capable of winning and doing “a lot of damage” this season.

Throughout the offseason, the baseball team worked hard to get ready for spring. They participated in several scrimmages and winter training. The team may be smaller than in the past, but they aren’t letting that hold them back.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how we adapt to being a thinner ball group and watching us grow through experience together,” said junior Harry Blake.

Staying in the game and not letting negativity take over can be the most difficult part of the game.

“The hardest part of playing baseball is the mental aspect of it. It truly is hard to not get down on yourself when you’re having a bad game, or a bad stretch of games at that,” senior JJ Gillespie. “But one has to remember to have a short term memory, and come back the best you can be when all is said and done.”

The Kats travel to the Trailblazer Classic on Saturday.
