The LadyKats softball team is gearing up for their annual Kokomo Softball Invitational. The tournament kicks off tonight, with the Kats hosting Delta, Roncalli, Westfield, Illiana Christian, Saint Josephs, Bellmont and Covenant Christian. Games will take place tonight and tomorrow.
As they’ve been practicing and playing this season, the team is hoping to win the sectional and play in the regional later this season. Sophomore Lucy Goad agrees, putting winning the sectional on her list of goals for the season.
“My goals are to have less than five strikeouts on the season, win conference and win sectional as it has been almost six years since we have won a sectional championship,” she said.
Senior Amirah Marciniack believes the team’s strength is the bond they have.
“The team is very close together and our team chemistry is what’s going to get us far this season,” she said.
For freshman Spencer Martin, staying mentally tough can be hard, especially when the team plays back-to-back games.
“The hardest part of softball is being mentally strong. The game can be intense and it’s easy to forget how hard I’ve worked, so being mentally strong is something I work on and off the field,” she said.
