From classrooms to crowns, Amelia Duncan is the student that has it all. Earlier this summer, the KHS senior competed for the Miss Howard County title at the Howard County 4H Fair. She describes this experience as “unforgettable.”
Duncan was inspired to enter Miss Howard County for experience. She wanted to better her interview skills, and knew that this pageant would be a beneficial way to do that. Initially, Duncan was not planning on participating; she signed up the day before. Despite this last minute decision there “was not any sort of pressure from anyone. There was only support from anyone I ever talked to,” she said.
Duncan’s process of becoming Miss Howard County is something that she will never forget. From the delicious fair food to the other beautiful contestants that surrounded her, this experience has further shaped her as a person and set her senior year off on a positive and memorable note.
“If you go out there and show your genuine self, people will see that. I went in whole-heartedly with an open mind,” she said. “I have never been able to show that side of myself like that. So knowing that me being authentically me was enough to come out with a win is so memorable.”
Duncan encourages anyone interested in competing to look into year’s 4H fair queen pageant.
“Don’t think about what could happen, or messing up, or the ‘what-ifs,’ just do it,” she said. “The girls that I met and the memories I made are ones that I will remember for the rest of my life. Everything was worth it in the end.”
