The Wildkats boys’ tennis team has been making impressive strides this season, showing both growth and determination on the court. From hard-fought singles matches to strong double pairings, the team has demonstrated improved skill, discipline, and teamwork with every competition. With a mix of seasoned players and fresh talent, the Wildkats have built momentum throughout the season, earning respect from their opponents and pride from their school community. Their progress reflects not only their commitment to the game but also their drive to push the program to new heights.
Individually, senior Caleb Taflinger now holds the record for most career single victories at KHS with 67. Taflinger helped lead his team to a a third straight North Central Conference championship. Over the weekend the Kats beat Muncie Central and Anderson 5-0 to go undefeated in the NCC. The Kats only dropped two games Saturday and did not drop a set all year in conference.
Next up for the Kats is the sectional tournament, something they’ve had their sights set on all season.
“Our goals for the season coming into it were to be ranked which we are, to win sectionals and our far off goal is to win regionals. Our main focus is to win sectionals,” Taflinger said.
Senior Harry Blake believes the Kats can come out on top in the sectional and compete for the regional title as well.
“When we get through Western in sectional and win we’ll have a big chance at regional as well. And once we achieve these goals they’ll become the standard for next season,” Blake said.
The sectional championship is something the tennis team has been working towards for months.
“Since the start of june our team has had our eyes set on one match being that sectional championship match. Last year we came up a bit short but this year we are ready,” said sophomore Austin Moos. “Every day the guys go hard and push each other to prepare for the upcoming match.”
Even though they can’t measure their successes yet, the hard work each tennis player is putting in helps the team get closer.
“It is hard to say if we are close to achieving our goals, because our goal is a singular match that hasn’t come yet,” Moos said. “However, I do believe that our work ethic is putting us closer to our goal.”
The Wildkat tennis team travels to Culver Academies Saturday before competing in the sectional tournament at the Kokomo tennis courts next week.
