International Festival brings culture to KHS

On Monday, March 13, the KHS gym was filled with high school students ready to present their projects at the annual International Festival. This year, the cultural extravaganza had more than 60 countries represented. All of the IB freshmen, most of the international students and the German students created presentations.

KHS students were invited to attend the event during 1st and 2nd periods, while Kokomo School Corporation elementary and middle school students visited throughout the day to experience a variety of activities.

“The KACC culinary classes served gourmet dishes.  Students in band, choir, dance, and other groups performed,” said Spanish teacher Shara Dishon. “Visitors will be able to vote on their favorite “Día de Muertos” shoebox ofrendas too.”

Dishon, who has helped with the International Festival for four years and has led the festival committee for the last two years, said she would choose to present on Costa Rica if she had the chance.

“I was blessed with the opportunity to take a group of students there with Ms. Magnuson years ago and it was magical.  It remains one of the most amazing countries I’ve traveled to of all time.”
