Throughout most of first semester and the beginning of second semester, sophomores in the IB Middle Years Programme work on personal projects. The students can choose their topics; most choose things they have an interest in or would like to learn more about.
“My favorite thing about this project was getting to choose what we wanted to do,” said sophomore Claire Callane. “All of us have several interests and hobbies, so I truly loved that the project is based on what we chose.”
Callane’s project was about sports photography.
“I chose sports photography because I have been taking professional photos for two years and I wanted to further my knowledge in sports photography,” she said. “I usually focus on lifestyle pictures, so having a personal project gave me a great opportunity to learn more, practice more and better my pictures.”
Sophomore Macy Rakestraw used her passion for baking in her Personal Project.
“Essentially I created my own mini business by partnering with Gina Curl, the owner of Bruno’s Pizza, to bake and sell my homemade cinnamon rolls,” she said.
Rakestraw used the project to expand her knowledge of baking and gain an insight into the business process. She sold her cinnamon rolls at Bruno’s Pizza, and quickly sold out.
Freshmen IB students had the opportunity to visit the personal project showcase to get ideas for their own projects for next year.
