Batter up! Softball season has started and the girls are coming in hot. This year, the team is under new direction. Head coach Candace Steve has taken over the team this season. Steve is not new to coaching though.

“I have been coaching for about 15 years in a three different sports (softball, volleyball and baseball),” she said. “I have coached everything from 6U tee-ball to varsity softball.”

Steve and the LadyKats are looking to build upon their successes and learn.

“My ultimate goal for the softball team is to get better every single day. If we are getting better everyday, we are going to have a lot of success,” Steve said.

Senior Jordan Thatcher agrees with her coach’s mentality.

“I show up to practice everyday with the same goal: to get better than I was the day before. I show up and work hard,” Thatcher said.

Even though having a new coach can mean changes, senior Dani Tate believes the team is handling it well.

“We are all adjusting and adapting very well,” she said. “I’m looking forward to the rest of the season and to see how we will improve.”

So far, the season has been an exciting one for Steve with many highlights and memorable moments.

“The highlight of our season is a toss up,” she said. “It could be beating our conference rivals McCutcheon 6-4 with an entire team effort or beating the #3 ranked team in the state in 3A (South Bend Riley) last Friday 11-4.”

The LadyKats look to add one to the win column tomorrow, when they travel to North Central for a 10am game.
