On Wednesday, Sept. 11, 26 KHS juniors and seniors were inducted into the Wildkat Chapter of National Honor Society. Students who are inducted into NHS have to meet a number of requirements relating to the organizations four pillars: character, leadership, scholarship and service.
“You have to be involved in service opportunities and doing good for the community before even getting accepted into the program,” said social media coordinator and treasurer Noelle Duncan. “You also need to maintain a high GPA and do well in all of your classes.”
During the induction ceremony, the NHS officers each spoke about one of the pillars. Chapter secretary Mara Dechert spoke about scholarship; Duncan spoke about character; vice president Eliza Arvay spoke on leadership; president Gabe Newland spoke about service.
The induction ceremony ended with closing remarks from assistant cross country coach Dana Neer, who talked to the audience about working hard and having passion.
Newland is excited about the future of NHS and the promise the new inductees show.
“Their acceptance into the society speaks for itself,” he said. “I’m excited to see what they do this year and how they represent NHS and themselves throughout the year.”
